, March 19 -- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) during special drives in the capital, arrested 179 people for their alleged involvement in different crimes in 24 hours till Tuesday midnight.

A total of 64 cases were filed during this period, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP on Wednesday.

Among the arrestees, three were robbers, eight muggers, two extortionists, ten thieves, 27 drug peddlers and 43 were warrant listed criminals.

Police also seized two knives, two machetes, one sharp weapon, two mobile phone sets, 1,613 pieces of Yaba tablets, two packets of heroin and 2.990 kgs of hemp, one vehicle, one auto-rickshaw and cash Tk 11,700 from their possession.
