Faridpur, March 5 -- At least 10 shops were gutted in a fire at a local market in Faridpu's Alfadanga upazila on Tuesday night.

In-charge of Alfadanga Fire Service Station Aslam Hossain said the fire erupted from an electric short-circuit at a shop at Bana Bazar around 11:30pm and burned down adjoining grocery, cosmetic, and restaurant shops.

A firefighting unit from the station rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control after a half hour of efforts, he said.

However, affected claimed that valuables worth Tk 25 to 30 lakh were damaged.
