Suffolk County Police sing Christmas carol to warn locals of car thefts
New York, Dec. 24 -- The holidays are a time of shopping and gift-giving, which can also mean a time for increased thefts. That's why Suffolk County Police released a PSA remind people to stay safe from thefts - with a unique twist.
In a video posted on the police department's YouTube page, members sang the classic carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas, but changed the lyrics so that instead of describing what "my true love sent to me," the song described what criminals "stole from thee."
The message is meant to warn people of the community to lock their cars to avoid becoming a victim of theft. In 2019, police responded to 2,066 larcenies for car in Suffolk County. Last year, Suffolk Police handled 2,329 incidents of thefts from cars.
