New York, Dec. 7 -- US Sen. Kamala Harris, who is running for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in next year's election, joined actor, comedian and writer Mindy Kaling to cook masala dosa and talk about their South Asian Indian heritage as South Asians at "the Mindy Project" star's home in Los Angeles this past Wednesday.

In the nearly 9-minute video, Harris appeared to embrace her Indian roots - her mother is Indian and her father black - as the pair discuss common family themes, such as their kitchen's having many spices in coffee jars.

"Can I just tell you something? I've never made dosa," Harris said in the video.
