Washington, April 4 -- Indian American lawmakers Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) joined a legislative effort to dismantle super Political Action Committees (PACs), supporting the Abolish Super PACs Act.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12) seeks to cap contributions to super PACs at $5,000 per year, effectively eliminating their influence in federal elections. It was introduced on the anniversary of the SpeechNow.org v. FEC decision
The 2010 ruling, alongside Citizens United v. FEC, paved the way for unlimited independent expenditures, which advocates say have allowed billionaires and corporate interests to dominate the political system.
