New Jersey, Dec. 4 -- James Solomon has been elected mayor of Jersey City, defeating former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey's bid for a political comeback. Solomon will take office in January, succeeding the incumbent mayor, Steve Fulop.

Solomon, a Democrat, is a former teacher and eight-year city councilmember. He first won a seat on the Jersey City Council in 2017. Before moving to Jersey City, Solomon served as an aide to the Mayor of Boston, where he applied technology to address persistent city issues, including potholes and snow removal.
