New York, April 13 -- India on Monday reported 168,912 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours to overtake Brazil as the second-most affected Covid-19 country in the world.

With 168,912 new infections, India's overall coronavirus tally reached 13.53 million, surpassing Brazil's 13.45 million cases, according to data compiled by Reuters. The United States leads the global tally with 31.2 million cases.

The last time India crossed Brazil's caseload was in 2020 when on September 7, India had recorded a single-day hike of 90,000 cases taking the nationwide tally to 4,204,613 cases.
