Beijing, Sept. 3 -- In his opening remarks during delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation)Summit in China, President Xi Jinping said on August 31, it is vital for India and China to be friends and good neighbors.

Calling the two countries "ancient civilisations" in the East, President Xi said at the meeting, which comes amid both India and China facing US tariffs, that it is important for the "dragon and the elephant to come together". The two leaders had met last in October 2024 during the BRICS Summit in Russia.
