Jammu Tawi, March 2 -- The Government has received 98.18 percent of Rs 2000 currency notes at the close of business on February 28, 2025, the RBI said on Saturday while adding that the banknotes continue to be legal tender.

The total value of Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, when the withdrawal of Rs 2000 banknotes was announced, has declined to Rs 6,471 crore at the close of business on February 28, 2025.

Thus, 98.18 per cent of the Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation as on May 19, 2023, has since been returned, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in a statement.
