Jammu Tawi, April 1 -- An encounter has erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Panjtirthi area of Jathana, Kathua.
A senior police officer confirmed that following specific intelligence about suspicious movement, a cordon-and-search operation was launched.
During the searches, security forces came under intense fire, leading to a gunfight. The exchange of fire is going on, the officer added.
Sources said that three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
