Jammu, June 28 -- New Delhi, June 29 - The Narendra Modi government has appointed Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, as the new Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's external intelligence agency. He will assume charge on Monday, July 1, for a two-year term.

Jain replaces Ravi Sinha, whose term ends on June 30. Sinha's tenure is seen as relatively uneventful in intelligence circles.

Parag Jain currently heads the Aviation Research Centre (ARC), which played a key role in intelligence gathering during 'Operation Sindoor' related to Pakistan's military activities.
