Jammu, June 17 -- Reference date for snow-bound areas of J&K set as October 1, 2026
New Delhi, June 16: The government of Monday officially notified that the next Census of the population of India will be conducted in the year 2027. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made the announcement through a Gazette notification issued under Section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (Act 37 of 1948). "The reference date for the said census shall be 00.00 hours of the 1st day of March, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand," the notification said.
