Srinagar, May 15 -- Security forces shot dead an unidentified terrorist in an ongoing operation in Awantipora sub-district of south Kashmir.

Police said a gunbattle erupted in the early hours on Thursday at Nader Tral during a cordon-and-search operation which was launched following an input about terrorists' presence. "One terrorist has been killed," said a senior police officer. "The operation is going on," he added.

Earlier, in a post on X, police said an encounter broke out at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora.
