Jammu Tawi, March 16 -- A new immigration bill introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 11 proposes stringent penalties for individuals using forged passports or visas to enter, stay, or exit India. If the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 is approved by Parliament, offenders could face imprisonment of up to seven years, along with a fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
The legislation, led by the Union Home Ministry, aims to tighten regulations on foreign nationals in India, requiring institutions such as hotels, universities, and hospitals to report information about foreigners to help track overstaying visitors.
