Leh, April 16 -- The authorities in the Union Territory of Ladakh Thursday said that with the resurgence of COVID-19 cases across the country amid high intensity of the second wave, there is a steep rise in cases in Ladakh as well while 85 per cent of the 985 active cases in the region are non-UT residents.

District Magistrate Leh Shrikant Balasaheb Suse while addressing a conference said that the main factor for rise in positive cases are the outsiders including the laborers and tourists. "Of the total active positive cases, 85 per cent are the outsiders while the 15 per cent are locals tested on arrival at the airport", he said.
