India, Aug. 31 -- The Northern Railways on Sunday operated three special trains from Jammu station, carrying over 1,500 stranded passengers to their onward destinations, as usual rail traffic remained suspended for the sixth day in the region.

The Northern Railways also announced the cancellation of 54 incoming and outgoing trains from Jammu and Katra stations on Monday.

The Kolkata-bound special train carried about 450-500 passengers from Jammu at 2 pm. Similarly, the Chennai-bound departed at 4 pm with over 400 passengers and the third one headed to Delhi at 6 pm with 600-650 passengers on board, officials said.
