Mendhar/Jammu, July 10 -- A 12-year-old girl was killed after a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, struck the Chak Bonalla area in Mendhar tehsil of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday, officials confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as Afiya Kousar, a resident of the affected area. The landslide occurred in a mountainous region, where recent continuous rainfall has loosened soil and rock formations, increasing the risk of such incidents.
Local authorities and rescue teams rushed to the spot but were unable to save the child. The body was later recovered and handed over to the family for last rites, officials said.
