New Delhi, June 7 -- Weeks after the Election Commission of India (ECI) dismissed allegations over Maharashtra elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's fresh claims have stirred a controversy, with the Bharatiya Janata Party saying he was doing so to pre-empt his party's defeat in the upcoming polls.

"Unsubstantiated allegations raised against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024 itself, which is available on ECI's website.
