NEWYORK, Oct. 24 -- Google claims it has built a machine that can complete a task, which would take the world's fastest computer 10,000 years, in only 200 seconds.

The results announced on Wednesday signal the birth of a new era with much faster computing speeds.

The astounding breakthrough is known as "quantum supremacy", according to the scientific journal- Nature.

The latest design heralds the rise of quantum computers that utilize quantum mechanics as the driver behind fast computer processing.
