Nigeria, July 2 -- The Yobe State Police Command has announced plans to carry out a controlled detonation of a high-powered explosive device in Damaturu on Wednesday, July 3.

In a statement issued in Damaturu, the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the detonation will be conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Police Unit.

He explained that the detonation will take place at 1:00 p.m. in a secured area along Gashua Road, a safe distance from the police headquarters.

Abdulkarim assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, as all necessary safety measures have been put in place to ensure the exercise poses no risk to residents.
