Nigeria, Jan. 13 -- The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral video alleging that some of its students were arrested for collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents.
In a press release obtained by The News Chronicle on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by the Registrar, Ahmad A. Lawan, the university management described the claims circulating on social media as baseless, mischievous, and without any factual foundation.
According to the statement, no student of the University of Maiduguri has been found to have links with Boko Haram insurgents or any similar extremist group. The management stressed that the institution has never tolerated extremism or violence in any form.
