Nigeria, July 7 -- More than 80 people have died following severe flash floods that swept through central Texas over the Independence Day weekend.

Among the victims are at least 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp located along the Guadalupe River in Hunt, Kerr County. The flooding began early on Friday, July 4, 2025, after relentless rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise by more than 26 feet in under one hour, according to state officials. The National Weather Service reported that up to 10 inches of rain fell in some parts of the Texas Hill Country, with rainfall continuing into the new week.
