Nigeria, Nov. 3 -- President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for a second term in a ceremony held at a military parade ground in the capital.
The event took place under tight security and was not open to the public. It was broadcast live on state television.
Samia was declared the winner of the general election with 98% of the vote. Most major opposition candidates did not take part as Tundu Lissu is in detention on treason charges, which he denies, and Luhaga Mpina of ACT-Wazalendo was excluded on legal grounds. Only sixteen smaller parties, without significant public support, appeared on the ballot.
