Nigeria, May 7 -- San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama has been named NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, a league-high 3.6 blocked shots, and 1.2 steals a game.

The 20-year-old is the first Frenchman to win the accolade and the first unanimous Rookie of the Year since Karl-Anthony Towns in 2016.

Wembanyama won the award despite his team finishing with the second-worst record in the Western Conference. He's regarded as one of the youngest talents, a feat that has helped him scope the award of rivals.
