Nigeria, May 26 -- The former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, has passed on at the age of 61.

It was gathered that Mr Lamorde died in Egypt where he was receiving medical treatment.

Lamorde served as EFCC chairman between 2011 and 2015 while he was a police officer.

He joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.

According to his profile on the EFCC website, Mr Lamorde was the third Executive Chairman of the anti-graft agency.

Recall that when the EFCC was created in 2003, Mr Lamorde was made the pioneer Director of Operations.
