Nigeria, Dec. 31 -- What was supposed to be a fun event turned out tragic, as at least two people have died, and several others injured, following a fireworks explosion at a community Christmas carnival in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred when a high-intensity firework, popularly known as a 'knockout,' detonated unexpectedly near the main stage of the event, sparking panic among revelers.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion happened at the height of the celebrations, sending people scrambling for safety.

One of the victims, identified only as Ugochi, reportedly died on the spot, while another was rushed to a nearby hospital, where they later succumbed to injuries.
