Nigeria, Dec. 16 -- The Oba of Benin, Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, on Monday carried out the age-old Ugierhoba rite, officially signalling the commencement of the 2025 Igue festival.
The News Chronicle gathered that the sacred observance was held at the revered Ugharhoba section of the Benin Palace, reflecting the enduring link between ancestral customs and present-day Benin traditions.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Ugierhoba refers to holy ancestral shrines dedicated to the forebears of Oba Ewuare, which are honoured during the Igue festival, also known as "Ugie".
