Nigeria, July 12 -- Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following violent clashes and unrest in some parts of the area.

In a statement released on Friday night, the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the government considers the violence unacceptable and has ordered security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew.

He warned that anyone caught violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

The curfew takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
