Nigeria, May 12 -- Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not hand its 2027 presidential ticket to a northern candidate.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, May 12 Wike's remarks seemed to target former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP's flagbearer in the 2023 election.

"PDP cannot give the presidential ticket to the North (in 2027)," Wike said, warning that political selfishness could destroy the party.

He questioned the logic of mirroring the All Progressives Congress (APC): "If Mr President runs and wins in 2027, by 2031 APC will send their presidential ticket to the North. PDP will do what then? Follow suit? That's not leadership."
