Dhaka, Oct. 9 -- Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday underscored the importance of achieving self-sufficiency rather than merely graduating from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

"We must be clear that we no longer wish to remain dependent on others. Our goal should be to become self-reliant as soon as possible-there is no alternative," he said.

Professor Yunus made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee formed to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition of Bangladesh from the LDC status. The meeting was held at the Chief Adviser's Office in Tejgaon.
