Dhaka, March 18 -- Hundreds of workers from a garment factory in the Bhogra area of Gazipur staged a protest on Monday morning, demanding unpaid wages. In response, authorities declared a holiday in 10 to 12 nearby factories as a precautionary measure.

The protest began around 9:45 am when employees of Meem Garments took to the streets over wage arrears from the previous month.

According to local sources, the protesters later blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and attempted to vandalise nearby factories. They also called on workers from other factories to join the protest.
