Dhaka, Nov. 22 -- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed profound shock and concern over the series of earthquakes that struck different parts of the country.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives and the extensive damage caused by Friday's powerful earthquake in Bangladesh.

I extend my heartfelt solidarity and deepest sympathy to everyone affected by this devastating natural disaster," he said in a post on his verified Facebook page.

A powerful earthquake hit the country at 10:38am on Friday, damaging several high-rise buildings in Dhaka and causing widespread destruction in other regions. So far, six people have died and more than two hundred have been injured.
