Dhaka, Sept. 14 -- Legendary folk singer and Lalon song exponent Farida Parveen has passed away. She breathed her last at 10:15pm on Saturday. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).

Officials of Universal Medical College Hospital confirmed the news. She was 71 years old and leaves behind her husband and four children.

Parveen had long been battling kidney complications. In recent months, her health declined further, forcing her to undergo dialysis twice weekly.

On 2 September, she was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali for her routine dialysis. Following the procedure, however, her condition worsened, prompting doctors to recommend immediate hospitalisation.
