Dhaka, Oct. 17 -- The Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Sompritir Shikkharthi Jote panel has won a landslide victory in the Chattogram University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) election, securing 24 out of 26 central posts, including the key positions of vice-president and general secretary.
Chief Election Commissioner Professor Monir Uddin announced the results at around 5 am on Thursday at the university's BBA Faculty auditorium, saying that the polls were held peacefully and in a festive atmosphere.
In the contest for the vice-president (VP) post, Ibrahim Hossain Rony, backed by Shibir, won with 7,983 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Sazzad Hossain of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), who received 4,374 votes.
