Dhaka, July 28 -- The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has upheld a High Court verdict that scrapped proceedings of a defamation case filed against Nobel Laureate and Economist Professor Muhammad Yunus.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, rejected the state's petition on Sunday seeking permission to appeal the High Court's decision.
The defamation case was filed in 2010 over remarks made by Professor Yunus while he was serving as the Managing Director of Grameen Bank.
In 2011, Yunus filed a petition with the High Court seeking to quash the proceedings. On 24 October last year, the High Court delivered its verdict, declaring the case proceedings cancelled.
