Dhaka, June 21 -- Government employees and staff associations staged a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Friday, demanding the immediate repeal of the newly issued Public Service Ordinance, which they have labeled as a "black law" and anti-employee legislation.
The demonstration, held at 11:30 AM, was organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum and the Bangladesh Government Employees' Demands Implementation Unity Council.
Leaders of the protest stated that the ordinance grants excessive power that may be abused, ultimately harming government employees. They warned that if the ordinance is not withdrawn, they will launch tougher movements in the coming days.
