Dhaka, Feb. 9 -- Students of the Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) faced police batons as they staged a long march towards the secretariat, demanding recruitment for vacant positions and other key demands.
Clashes and chases ensued between the protesting students and the police in the secretariat-adjacent area at around 5:30pm.
Earlier, the students under the banner of General MATS Students' Unity Council took position at the busy intersection around 11:30am on Sunday, disrupting traffic in Shahbagh and the surrounding areas, demanding the resumption of the recruitment process for vacant positions in the Directorate General of Health Services which has been halted for over 12 years.
