Dhaka, July 31 -- In the murder case of Sumel Mia, a school student in Bishwanath, Sylhet district, eight accused have been sentenced to death, seven to life imprisonment, and 17 to two years of rigorous imprisonment.
Judge Syeda Amina Farhin, acting judge of the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Sylhet, announced the verdict on Wednesday (July 30).
Al Amin Rana, Bench Assistant (Presenter) of this court, confirmed this information.He said that out of the 34 accused in the case, the judge has ordered the death penalty for 8, life imprisonment for 7 and two years imprisonment for 17. Of them, 31 are in prison. Only Mamunur Rashid, who was sentenced to two years, is absconding.
