Dhaka, Dec. 6 -- Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Friday said the government will refrain from importing sugar as long as domestic warehouses hold sufficient stock.
"State-owned sugar mills can return to profitability through modernization, cultivation of improved sugarcane varieties, adoption of advanced farming methods, product diversification, and strong governance. If we can ensure adequate stocks of locally produced sugar, there will be no need to import," he said.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the 88th sugarcane crushing season of Carew & Company (Bangladesh) Ltd in Darshana this afternoon.
