Dhaka, Aug. 24 -- Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has confirmed that the government has taken stringent measures to prevent arms smuggling into Bangladesh ahead of the national elections scheduled for February.

Speaking to reporters in Dhaka on Saturday after visiting the BADC Seed Building near Gabtoli bus terminal, the adviser said law enforcement agencies are actively working to recover looted weapons and prevent any new influx of firearms.

"Arms recovery is a continuous process. All necessary steps will be taken to ensure no weapons enter the country-not only during the elections but at all times," he said, expressing confidence that illegal arms would be cleared before the polls.
