Dhaka, March 25 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said elections should serve as the gateway to democracy, but a new conspiracy has emerged to undermine the electoral process, assist external forces, and create chaos in the country.

He made these remarks on Tuesday during a meeting organised by the BNP at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Auditorium, in observance of Independence and National Day on 26 March.

The BNP secretary general said, "On social media new personalities are emerging, who are trying to create unrest in the country. We should be vigilant to resist such efforts."
