Dhaka, June 14 -- In a surprising move, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the national ODI team, replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto. Miraz will lead the side for the next one year.

The all-rounder addressed the media on Friday, a day after receiving the leadership role, sharing his vision and goals as captain. His captaincy will officially begin with the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Miraz emphasized that individual roles, including his own captaincy, are secondary to building a united team.

"Captaincy doesn't matter. Playing as a team is what's most important. It's time to rebuild our ODI squad. We need to set everything within this one year," Miraz said.
