Dhaka, Nov. 1 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested around 3,000 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated groups this year for allegedly attempting to disrupt law and order through flash processions in the capital.
The figure was revealed by DMP Media Wing Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman during a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Friday.
Responding to questions about the arrests, Talebur clarified, "This cannot be termed a crackdown. We are detaining those involved in flash processions and unlawful activities. After verifying the allegations, they are sent to jail through court orders."
