Dhaka, Oct. 1 -- The Election Commission (EC) has decided to register the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Bangladesh Jatiya League as political parties, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed on Tuesday evening at the commission's Dhaka headquarters.

Out of 143 applications, only NCP and Bangladesh Jatiya League have primarily fulfilled the requirements after field-level investigations of 22 parties. A public notice will now be issued for both parties to invite objections or concerns before final registration.
