Dhaka, July 16 -- In a highly unusual move, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has suspended 14 of its officials for allegedly defying transfer orders and engaging in what the authorities have described as "blatant insubordination."

According to the official suspension notice, some of the officers publicly tore up their transfer letters in protest - a dramatic gesture that has sent shockwaves through the country's revenue administration.

The suspension orders, signed by NBR Chairman and Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) Md Abdur Rahman Khan, state that the action was taken in accordance with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
