Dhaka, April 27 -- A blackout swept across 21 districts in the southern region of Bangladesh on Saturday due to a technical issue in the national power grid.

"The blackout began at 5:48pm," said Mohammad Haidar Ali, Managing Director of the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL), which supplies electricity to the region.

He explained that the issue originated from the Aminbazar grid substation in Gopalganj.

"However, the situation is gradually improving, with electricity supply restored in several districts after about two hours. It will take some more time to fully resolve the issue," Haidar added.
