Dhaka, Dec. 7 -- December 6, is Srimangal Liberation Day. On this day in 1971, the freedom fighters liberated Srimangal from the enemy by defeating the Pakistani occupying forces and their allies.

The flag of victory flew in Srimangal, the famous tea capital and tourist city, ending nine months of bloody war, torture, genocide and humiliation.

The city was filled with joy, joy of freedom and the indomitable spirit of independence.

During the Liberation War, Srimangal was strategically very important. With its vast tea plantation area, hilly terrain, and the junction of railway lines and highways, it was one of the strongholds of the invading forces.
