Dhaka, Sept. 2 -- A landslide in the Marra Mountains of western Sudan, following days of heavy rain, killed more than 1,000 people and left only one survivor, according to the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army. The movement, which operates in Darfur, called for international assistance to recover bodies and aid victims. The disaster comes as civilians flee the North Darfur conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, amid worsening hunger and displacement across the region.

The village "has now been completely levelled to the ground," the movement added.
