Dhaka, Nov. 29 -- Religious Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has urged everyone to refrain from actions that could heighten tensions ahead of the upcoming national election.

Speaking at the International Qur'an Recitation Conference at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday, Khalid said the government would avoid any move that might raise doubts about the election process or hinder a smooth transition of power.

"We will proceed with caution and act responsibly," he said.He stressed that no one would be permitted to create chaos by misusing religious teachings, noting that only qualified scholars are authorised to interpret religious issues. "We will not tolerate any distortion or misrepresentation of Islam," he added.
