Dhaka, June 5 -- The Election Commission (EC) has reached a unanimous decision to reinstate the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party, along with its traditional election symbol, the scales (d?ripalla).
The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon by Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah following the EC's sixth full commission meeting held at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
Addressing the media, Commissioner Sanaullah said, "We have considered the issue of the party's symbol. Jamaat-e-Islami was registered in 2008 with the d?ripalla symbol. According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), once a symbol is allocated to a party, it remains reserved for that party."
